About the initiative :
We are building work around the MDGs across all year groups and staff at Brigshaw High School and Language College, Leeds.
Students have formed a Fairtrade Club and Amnesty International Club but the main organisers are the pupils involved in Connecting Courage. Connecting Courage is an organisation that supports underprivileged children and orphans in Namibia. This work focuses mainly on MDGs 1, 2, and 6.
O akci/události :
Connecting Courage has raised over a £1000 through a Battle Of The Bands of which we held on the 27th of February for students at our school. CC has also organised assemblies, sponge the pupil events, penalty shoot outs, coffee mornings, and HIV/AIDS awareness events. They have also coordinated fancy dress/non-uniform days at school too.
We've held Fairtrade coffee mornings, bake sales, penalty shoot outs, raffles, rose sales, and chocolate sales. Fairtrade is taught in PHSCE, ASDAN, Geography, and D&T. Fairtrade goods are now sold in the canteen and served at open evenings, parent's events, and school performances. Brigshaw was even featured on the Fairtrade Foundation/DFID's DVD for becoming a Fairtrade School.
